BJP state president K Annamalai on Tuesday alleged that the ruling DMK government has failed to stop illegal dumping of biomedical waste from Kerala in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. He has also threatened to dump the waste in the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu if they continue.
In a social media post, Mr. Annamalai alleged that Chief Minister MK Stalin has abandoned Tamil Nadu’s rights, including the distribution of Cauvery river water, to states ruled by DMK’s alliance partners.
“Our southern districts, especially Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi, have become the Kerala government’s dumpyard. Biomedical waste, plastic waste and poultry waste from Kerala are illegally dumped in lorries,” he said.
He also alleged that check posts along the border have become “collection centres” and vehicles carrying waste material from Kerala are being allowed to enter Tamil Nadu illegally.
“Even the DMK government did not take any steps to stop the illegal smuggling of minerals from the southern districts to Kerala. Although officials and the Chief Minister have complained repeatedly to the Public Grievance Redressal Cell, no action has been taken so far. It is clear that such illegal activities are taking place without the knowledge of the government,” he said.
The state government should immediately stop the illegal dumping of biomedical waste from Kerala. If they continue to be dumped in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Annamalai said, he will gather the people and march towards Kerala in the first week of January.
