India is becoming a developed society as the number of women in the medical profession increases: President Murmu

President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday (December 17, 2024) said that the increasing participation of women in the medical profession and their significant contribution has shown that India is becoming a truly developed society.

Addressing the first convocation of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) at Mangalagiri near Amravati, she said, “Relentless promotion of holistic health and ensuring health for all should be the guiding principle of every medical professional at this institute.”

“The increasing participation of women in the medical profession and their significant contribution shows that we are becoming a truly developed society. It also highlights that our daughters will excel in every field if given the opportunity,” said the President.

“The government has introduced several schemes including the Ayushman Bharat Swasthya Bima Yojana to make treatment accessible to those who face difficulties in accessing treatment,” she said.

“It is the responsibility of the conscious society as well as the government to ensure that no one is deprived of medical services due to financial or other reasons,” emphasized President Murmu.

The President said that Indian doctors are leading among developed nations due to their talent and hard work. He said that people from other countries also come to India for health services.

Saying that India is developing as an important center of affordable medical tourism on the world map, she said that the country’s doctors have an important role to play in this.

He urged the young doctors to provide healthcare and services to people living in rural, tribal and remote areas. “Yogasana and pranayama have also been accepted from a modern perspective in terms of holistic health care,” he said.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Adbul Nazir, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav, Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav and other dignitaries were present.

The foundation stone for AIIMS-Mangalagiri was laid in 2015 and the first batch of MBBS students were admitted on August 30, 2018, which passed today (December 17).
