YouTube will turn qualified doctors’ channels into authoritative health information sources

YouTube will allow registered doctors, nurses, mental health professionals, and health information providers in India to undergo an application and verification process so that their channels can be eligible for health product features.

The platform previously worked with recognized healthcare organizations such as AIIMS, Nimhans, Apollo Hospitals, and Max Healthcare to provide fact-checked health information to internet users. Now, it plans to allow medical professionals and experts to join these networks and add their own channels to the pool of verified accounts.

To be eligible for this update, applicants must be registered, follow industry-standard best practices, and have a YouTube channel in good standing.

“In the coming months, eligible channels that have applied through this process will have health resource information panels beneath their videos, to help viewers identify them as an official source. And, content from registered healthcare providers will also be included and highlighted on health content shelves when viewers browse health Subjects search,” the company noted in a blog post.

Additionally, YouTube said it will support medical organizations to create more content so that more than 140 physical and mental health conditions are covered, in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, and English.
