Hyderabad: The Telangana Police’s Special Task Force (STF) on Monday arrested six people for allegedly smuggling non-duty paid liquor (NDPL) into the state from Madhya Pradesh.
The STF recovered 154 bottles of liquor worth Rs 2.5 lakh from the smugglers. In addition, two motorcycles, one car and six mobile phones have also been seized.
According to police, the arrested are Tarun Verma, Ravindra Goud, K Surendra Reddy, Kranti, Nagaraju and Venki.
“Based on credible information, we conducted inspections at various check posts,” said Superintendent of Excise Anji Reddy.
“A smuggler named Tarun Verma was arrested in Chengicherla, who was smuggling large quantities of duty-free liquor,” added Anji Reddy. It has been revealed that he has been smuggling NDPL for the past few years.
40 bottles of liquor were recovered from his car.
“Based on information disclosed by Tarun Verma during interrogation, liquor was recovered from another person named K Surendra Reddy,” said the Superintendent of Excise.
“Furthermore, 44 (28, 16) bottles of NDPL were recovered from the houses of two different persons in Shaikpet and SR Nagar respectively,” Reddy added.
Meanwhile, Director of Excise Enforcement VB Kamalasan Reddy appreciated the efforts of the STF teams.
