Defeated after the election, Patole demanded Kharge’s removal from the Maharashtra Congress chief post Mumbai News

Days after the Congress suffered its worst defeat in the assembly elections in Maharashtra, its state unit president Nana Patole has requested the central leadership to relieve him of organizational post responsibilities, party sources said on Friday.

According to sources, Patole has emailed a letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, in which he wants to be relieved of the post of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief.

The Congress, a constituent of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), contested 101 Assembly seats in Maharashtra and won only 16, posting its worst showing in its one-time stronghold. Many top leaders of the state failed to retain their assembly constituencies.

Pato himself won Sakoli assembly constituency in Bhandara district by only 208 votes.
