Reshuffle in Bengal Police: Intelligence chief sacked Kolkata News

The state home department on Wednesday removed R Rajasekaran as state police intelligence chief and ADG CID after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a “complete overhaul” of the CID – the state police’s criminal investigation department.

Rajasekharan has been made ADG (IGP Training), a very low-key post in the police administration.

However, the government has not named a successor to Rajasekaran, who was appointed as Additional Director General (ADG) and IGP of West Bengal CID in May 2022.

Home Ministry sources said that the name of his successor will be revealed in a couple of days. Meanwhile, the government has appointed R Shivakumar as ADG and Rajeev Mishra as IGP of Enforcement Branch (EB). On the other hand, Mishra has been made ADG and IGP (Modernization and Coordination).

Damayanti Sen, who is in ADG training, has been made ADG and IGP, Niti.

Rajasekaran was removed after the Chief Minister strongly criticized the functioning of the state police, especially the CID.

After presiding over a meeting of her government’s top officials on November 21, the chief minister said strict action should be taken against those involved in corruption “irrespective of their political colour”. “I will completely overhaul the CID, strengthen the STF (Special Task Force) and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),” he added.

She also directed Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar to look into the complaints against some officers and take action if found to be true. “If there are complaints (against police officers or political figures), verify them.

“It was decided that day that Rajasekaran, who is known to be very close to TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, will be transferred. We will see more transfers of top police officers in the coming days,” said a state home department official.
