A 20-year-old Delhi University student, a state-level boxer, allegedly slit the throats of his parents and sister at their home in south Delhi’s Deoli village on Wednesday morning. According to the police, the deceased are ex-serviceman Rajesh Kumar (51), his wife Komal (46) and 23-year-old daughter Kavita.
Police said that accused Arjun Tanwar made a PCR call. The police said that he was arrested.
“At 6.53 in the morning, he (Arjun) called the police saying that someone touched his flat and killed his parents and sister. He claimed that he had gone to the gym and found the body when he returned,” said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan. The Indian Express.
“During questioning, Arjun started giving contradictory statements about the events. For example, he changed the time when he left home for the gym, the time he found his family dead,” the police officer said. “He kept changing his statement about how he found the body.”
Finally, the case was cracked when “the forensic team found blood stains on the house and motorcycle keys, which were in Arjun’s possession,” the DCP said.
“Once confronted, he confessed,” said a senior police officer.
There was no twist in the story that unfolded. He said, ‘He was getting angry with his family.
“He told the police that his parents did not like him to box because they thought he had abandoned his studies. Arjun is a student of Motilal Nehru College, where he was admitted under the sports quota (in the BA Political Science course). He wanted to become a professional boxer. “He told the police that his parents had grown close to his sister, whom they considered a good student and an obedient child,” said a police officer involved in the inquiry.
Arjun represented Delhi in the boxing competition and won a silver medal. However, the achievement was not enough to convince his parents to support his dream.
‘She was always good at reading poetry. Rajesh and Komal wanted their son to be like him. Even though she was good at boxing, she was always compared to her sister,” said a police officer.
Things came to a head on Wednesday morning, the day of his parents’ wedding anniversary. When Arjun learns, the police say that his parents have decided to transfer ownership of their property to their daughter.
“The family owned a two-storey building where they lived. They also had a plot in Harsaru in Gurgaon,” said a police officer. “Babu seems to have just beaten up in front of his relatives. Arjun also had a fight with his parents on December 1. It was his sister’s birthday and the family had gathered to celebrate.
“He chose this day for the murder because it was his parents’ anniversary. That was the level of his anger,” said a police officer.
A case of murder has been registered at Neb Sarai police station.
What happened on Wednesday?
On the basis of Arjun’s alleged statement and other evidence, the police claimed to have created a series of incidents.
“At 5 am on Wednesday, Arjun took his father’s service knife and slashed his sister’s throat while she was sleeping on the ground floor of the (two-storey) house,” said Joint CP (Southern Range) Sanjay Kumar Jain.
Arjun then went upstairs to the house where his father was sleeping. “He put his hand over his father’s mouth and cut his throat so that he could not make any sound. Then she waited for her mother outside the washroom. As soon as she came out, he covered her mouth with a cloth and also cut her throat,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.
Arjun now needed an alibi. What he decided to do every day – go for a morning workout session. “After killing his parents, Sanjay Bhan locked himself in the house at around 5.30 in the morning. He then returned, unlocked his house and called the police,” said Joint CP Jain.
