Protests against the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das and atrocities against religious minorities in Bangladesh continued in Tripura on Wednesday, where an angry mob recently vandalized the premises of the neighboring country’s Assistant High Commission.
After the protest in Agartala, a Vedic Brahmin Samaj leader said, “We condemn the atrocities in Bangladesh against minorities, especially Hindus, and the arrest of a Hindu monk. He has not even been given a lawyer. We staged a sit-in here and our delegation wrote a memorandum to the Assistant High Commission in Bangladesh. We have also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold talks with Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindus there.
On Tuesday, an organization called Jago Hindu Jago staged a protest in Natunbazar, Dharmanagar on the India-Bangladesh border in North Tripura district.
A large group of Sanatani Yuva protesters took to the streets in Agartala. “We want the attacks on minorities to stop Chinmay Prabhu to be released. Otherwise, our movement will continue. As a part of that, we have come to the streets today,’ said a leader of Sanatan Yuva.
Former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik, who joined the movement, said that property, houses and businesses of minorities were attacked in nearly 17,000 places in Bangladesh and said that such barbarism cannot be accepted by any civilized society.
“We (Chinmoy) gathered in the protest meeting asking Prabhu for unconditional bail. The properties of Sanatani minorities have been looted. They were forcibly converted and their daughters were gang-raped… I think everyone should raise their voice against it,” said the BJP leader.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested seven people involved in the vandalism that took place at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala on Monday.
