MCC Revises NEET PG Counseling 2024 Brochure: AFMC Eligibility Criteria, Admission Details Added

The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has published a revised information bulletin for the NEET PG 2024 counseling process, which now contains important updates regarding the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) counseling and eligibility requirements.
According to a letter issued on June 26, 2024, the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) has announced that from this year, the MCC of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) will oversee the counseling process for Priority III, IV, and V candidates armed Seeking admission in Force Medical Services Postgraduate Teaching Institutes. DGAFMS will provide the merit list to MCC after reviewing the applications of Priority III and IV candidates.
For Priority V candidates, a detailed range of medical examinations is available in the information bulletin on the AFMS website. Candidates registering under Priority V will be counseled and allotted seats provisionally based on their eligibility and seat availability. Medical examination of these candidates will be done at the Institute where they are temporarily assigned. Only those who are medically fit will be admitted in the end.

NEET PG AFMC Counseling 2024: Important Details

The Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) conducts postgraduate training at AFMS PG teaching institutes mainly to meet the specialist requirements for in-service medical officers. Any additional seats are offered to eligible citizen candidates based on the priority system approved by the Government of India. Civilian doctors enrolled in postgraduate courses (MD/MS/DNB) in AFMS institutions are required to serve as Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSC) for five years in AFMS.
As per approval of Government of India, remaining seats in AFMS PG teaching institutes, after fulfilling AFMS requirements, are made available to other eligible candidates as per priority system mentioned in Ministry of Defense letter dated March 6, 2013. The priorities are as follows. :

  • Priority-I: AFMS Officers enrolled in Advanced Specialist Courses/PG Courses.
  • Priority-II: Foreign students sponsored by Government and AFMS authorities on study leave.
  • Priority-III: Medical officers sponsored by paramilitary or other government organizations.
  • Priority-IV: Ex-SSC AFMS officers within three years of release.
  • Priority-V: Citizen Candidates.

NEET PG AFMC 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Admission to postgraduate (MD/MS/DNB) courses in Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) institutions is available to graduates of medical colleges recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Candidates should also be registered as a medical practitioner with any state medical council recognized by NMC. As per the preferences mentioned in ‘Information Bulletin for PG Courses in AFMS Institutions through NEET PG-2024 and NEET MDS-2024’ available on AFMS website, all applicants except Priority-II candidates must be Indian citizens.
DGAFMS will provide the merit list for Priority-III and IV candidates to the Medical Consultative Committee (MCC).
For Priority-V candidates, the maximum age limit is 30 years as on December 31, 2024 (including dates of birth on or after January 1, 1995). Detailed guidelines for medical examination are available in the Information Bulletin on the AFMS website.
What are the minimum requirements for students to complete their internship?
Students who have completed or will complete their internship by August 15, 2024 for MD/MS/DNB courses as per National Board of Examinations (NBE) guidelines are eligible to apply or register. However, candidates should have their Temporary Registration Certificate or Permanent Registration Certificate available at the time of admission.
