NEET-UG 2024: Supreme Court hearing live update on Requests to Cancel

Today, after allegations of question paper leak and malpractices, the Supreme Court is set to examine pleas calling for NEET-UG 2024 examination cancellation. The chief justice of India DY Chandrachud along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear the petitions after 10:30 AM. The Central Government and the National Testing Agency have filed affidavits opposing it.

CJI: All counsels for petitioners pressing for a re-test must file by way of a common submission not above ten pages before Thursday.

CJi: A request has been received to list these matters on further hearing on Thursday before this court. Meanwhile, the Investigating Officer (CBI) should submit their report.

CJI: Fourthly, the court is concerned about maintaining the integrity of the NEET examination to prevent future incidents. It will be necessary for the government to consider establishing a multi-disciplinary team of renowned experts.

CJI: After which full details of such committee must be provided to this Court. Consequently, it may decide whether or not to allow continuation of such committee or change its composition.

CJI: If an exercise is intended by NTA and Union Government a policy decision has to be taken on counseling status.

CJi: The investigating officer must also submit a status report on these aspects. Another point of disclosure is whether data analytics can be used in order to identify suspect cases for which the authorities should state modalities before this Court.

CJI:The second aspect requires that NTA discloses what it has done thus far in identifying beneficiaries i.e., steps taken so far (1) to identify centers/cities where leak occurred (2) methods used for identification (3) number of students identified as beneficiaries.

CJI: When was the leakage first noticed? The Investigating Officer should bring material before this Court indicating when exactly and by what means as alleged did this leak occur?

CJI : As regards this aspect we are inclined to believe that because CBI is conducting investigation there must be a status report filed by Investigating Officer showing current stage of investigations and material found till now.
