3 killed, 6 injured when truck ran over people sleeping on pavement in Pune

Pune: Two children and a man were killed and six others injured when a truck rammed into people sleeping on the pavement in Maharashtra’s Pune city on Monday morning, police said. The incident took place around 12.30 am on the footpath of Wagholi area where many people were sleeping.

After the incident, the truck driver was arrested, the police said.

“Many people, mostly labourers, were sleeping on the pavement near Kesanand Phata area. Three people were killed when they were hit by a truck,” said a senior police officer.

“We have taken the driver into custody. We are checking whether he was under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation is on,” the officer said.

The deceased have been identified as Vaibhav Pawar (1), Vaibhav Pawar (2) and Vishal Pawar (22), police said.

He said that six other people were admitted to Sassoon General Hospital.
