A speeding tanker carrying chemicals caught fire after it overturned near the Mumbai-Pune highway in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Wednesday (December 25, 2024), police said.

An official said that there was no loss of life, and the traffic movement on the road was affected for a few hours.
The incident, comes five days after an accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway in which 14 people were killed and around 30 injured, occurred at 6.15 am at Patel Nagar, Shilphata, near the Khopoli area highway exit, he said.
According to the official, the speeding tanker overturned after the driver lost control of the wheel.
He said that the tanker was carrying inflammable chemicals which caused the fire and caused damage.
After receiving the news, Khopoli police reached the spot. Fire tenders from Tata, Godrej Group, HPCL and JSW also reached the spot, the official said.
He said that the fire was brought under control later.
