The BJP on Tuesday demanded a judicial probe into the incident involving the police after Governor Thawarchand Gehlot accused his MLC CT Ravi of “protecting” him and the MLC for making obscene comments on Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar. Legislative Council.

‘Stations not safe’

After meeting the Governor, R. Ashok, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, who led the BJP delegation, while informing the reporters, claimed that the way the UML behaved after the arrest by the police was only in favor of the government. Police stations seem to be unsafe.

After being arrested by the police, Ravi was taken to the sugarcane field and not to the police station ‘in the interest of his own safety’, Ashok argued that this stance clearly shows that the police and the government have colluded. It comes to the conclusion that police stations are not safe places.

He accused the Congress government of turning the police station into a party office. Accusing the police of not acting in a responsible manner, he said that there is no point in ordering the investigation of the incident to the CID as the police themselves will be involved in the investigation again. Therefore, a judicial inquiry was the only viable option to bring out the truth, and BJP would accept the report submitted by the judicial commission if a judicial inquiry was ordered, he said.

The governor was informed about the alleged “inhumane” treatment meted out to Mr. Ravi after his arrest by the police, he said.

This case has raised the question of what will be the condition of the common people if the police treated an MLC like this. Therefore, the governor has been requested to ensure the rule of law by taking steps according to the constitution,’ said Ashok.

phone calls

Accusing the Belagavi Police Commissioner of receiving constant telephone calls, he said that only an impartial inquiry like the calls made by the Chief Minister or the Deputy Chief Minister can bring out the truth, he said.
