One dead, one injured in suspected firing in Andhra Pradesh

Raichoti (Andhra Pradesh): One person was killed and another injured in a suspected shooting incident in Annamaya district, a police official said on Sunday.

45-year-old Hanumanthu and 30-year-old Raman, who make a living by cutting hair, selling old silverware and rearing goats, informed their family members that they were shot near Raychoti on Sunday morning. “This morning, around 5.30 am, when they (Hanumanthu and Ramana) were on their way to Madhavaram village, they alleged that unknown persons fired at them. They returned and informed their family members,” police told PTI. Both of them were injured under the right rib and they were initially taken to the government hospital in Raichoti.

They were later taken to RIMS Hospital in Kadapa. The police said that the injured Hanumanthu died during treatment. Additionally, they said investigations are ongoing to determine the type of weapon involved, noting that “the area is notorious for the use of pellet guns by poachers”.

The police said that it will become more clear after the post-mortem and a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by Hanumanthu’s wife. Coincidentally, Hanumanthu, Ramana and their family had pitched a tent on the outskirts of Raichoti a fortnight ago to earn their living.
