Civil Supplies Minister Nadendala Manohar emphasized that public awareness should be spread about consumer rights to get compensation for poor service and poor quality goods. Addressing a meeting held here on Tuesday on the occasion of National Consumer Rights Day, he said that people should be informed about the Consumer Protection Act (CPA).
He mentioned that the CPA will be amended from time to time according to the changing situation and emphasized that technology should be included for its effective implementation.
Manohar said that virtual hearings and digital services have been introduced in consumer courts to make consumer rights more effective.
Consumer laws were made more accessible, and consumers were encouraged to use them. The government had planned to set up a food testing laboratory in the district, for which discussions were going on.
Purchase of paddy
The minister said the government has procured 2.28 million metric tonnes (MMT) of paddy from farmers through the WhatsApp business platform. Farmers were paid within 48 hours.
