Raipur: Two jawans of CRPF’s top counter-insurgency wing COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) were injured when Maoists attacked their camp at Gomguda under Chintalnar police station in Sukma district of south Chhattisgarh, police said on Tuesday.
Police said the incident happened on Monday night.
According to the police, two jawans of 241 battalion of Cobra were injured when the Maoists attacked the Forward Operating Base (FOB) established at Gomguda under Chintalnar police station, which is considered to be the main area of ββNaxals in Sukma district, with barrel grenade launchers (BGLs). .
According to the police, there was a fierce exchange of fire between the security personnel stationed at the FOB and the Maoists.
Later, the Maoists fled the area.
βTwo young men were injured in the incident. Sukma District Superintendent of Police Kiran Chauhan said that they were immediately taken to the local medical center.
Their condition is said to be stable.
The two jawans were stationed in the outer layer of the FOB when the Maoists attacked the camp.
According to police officials, 16 security camps have been opened in Sukma district, the stronghold of Naxals, to the disappointment of the Maoists.
Sources said that FOBs have been opened in the main Maoist areas of the region to flush out the militants from the region.
In May 2010, Maoists killed 76 CRPF jawans in Chintalnar.
