ADMK Labor Rights Recovery Committee Coordinator, O. Panneerselvam on Saturday criticized the DMK government for its decision to appoint 8,997 cook assistants on a consolidated salary of ₹3,000 per month under the Purachi Thalaivar MGR Nutritious Midday Meal Scheme.
In a statement, Mr. Panneerselvam pointed out that there was a practice of recruiting cook assistants on the basis of special time scale pay, which was much lower than that adopted for regular government employees. Calling the move “unacceptable”, the former chief minister said it would only serve the purpose of propaganda for which the DMK government had appointed around 9,000 people but nothing else. He also expressed doubts about the effectiveness of appointing employees at such a salary when private individuals and firms hire employees at Rs 10,000 to 15,000.
Also, there was doubt whether the admission process would be transparent or not. “If the DMK regime is sincere in providing employment to the lower strata of the society, it should make the recruitment process transparent as well as recruit people to the posts on the basis of special time scale pay,” he added. The ruling party has not been able to fulfill its election promise of hiring mid-day meals and Anganwadi center workers as government employees. In another statement, the former chief minister expressed concern over the law and order situation in the wake of the killing of a youth in the Tirunelveli court campus.
Meanwhile, AIADMK Organization Secretary and former Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said that his party’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami exposed the “deplorable” state of law and order in the state. It is for this reason that due to “frustration”, Law Minister S. Regupathi had spoken against the AIADMK chief, Mr. Jayakumar said, wondering if the minister was not ashamed to go against the party that originally made him an MLA. the minister The former minister warned Mr. Regupathi that he would face strong pushback if he caused trouble for the AIADMK.
