Students blame authorities for celebrating Christmas

Students of MES College, Marampally, Aluva allegedly ran into trouble while celebrating Christmas on December 19. They are reportedly seen sitting, dancing on four-wheelers, and hanging out of windows and doors in processions. On a public road outside the campus.

The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has taken serious note of the incident, especially amid ongoing efforts to curb the recent rise in fatal accidents in the state. Transport Minister and Transport Commissioner have directed the Ernakulam Road Transport Authority to take strict action. The celebrations also drew complaints from residents, who reported the matter to the police and MVD. The students reportedly face possible disciplinary action from the college.

The Perumbavoor police said the college authorities have also registered a complaint against some expelled students who entered the campus during the celebrations. “We are confirming the matter and will take the statement of the college authorities. If the complaint is valid, we will register a case for encroachment,” he said.

The MVD drew attention to the matter even before the celebrations reached the media and complaints were registered. “We are collecting details of students and vehicles. Possible actions, including suspension of driving licenses and registration certificates of vehicles, are likely to take place within a few days,” Ernakulam Enforcement Regional Transport Office K. Manoj said.

Meanwhile, the college authorities have reportedly shared the vehicle number and the names of the students involved with the enforcement agencies based on the CCTV footage. “Most of the students involved in the festival were from Arts, Science and BVOC courses. We informed the police on the morning of the festival about the possibility of trouble and advised them to take necessary action. Since the incident mainly took place outside the campus, it will be dealt with by the enforcement agencies,” college officials said.
