There were two people from Delhi including a woman Shot dead by an unknown assailant On Monday morning, gunfire erupted in the parking lot of Sultanat Hotel in Pinjore, Panchkula district while leaving the birthday party.
The police have identified the deceased as Vineet alias Vicky (30) and his minor nephew Tirtha (17), both from Delhi. The third deceased, Vandana (22), was a resident of Uchana Kalan town in Jind district.
Police said in a statement that according to preliminary investigations, Vineet was facing five criminal cases, including murder and robbery. In 2019, a case was registered in Panchkula’s Sector 20 police station.
Police sources said the two shooters belonged to Mitran, a village in Vineet in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh. “We suspect that the accused were tracking Vineet’s movements,” said an official.
About 10 people had reached the hotel on Sunday evening to celebrate the birthday of Rohit Bharadwaj, a resident of Zirakpur, police said.
A youth who attended the party told the media, βWe were going home after the party and were in the parking lot of the hotel. Suddenly three youths in a white Etios car approached and opened fire. We don’t know who they were. Vicky was hit by eight to nine bullets.
An FIR under the Indian Code of Justice and the Arms Act was registered at the Pinjore police station based on a complaint filed by Zirakpur resident Ashish, who works in a private company and was also present at the party.
In his complaint, Ashish said Rohit had initially invited him and his other friends to Hotel Bella Vista in Sector 5, Panchkula. However, the location of the party was later changed to the Sultanate of Pinjore. He said that the party started at 10:30 pm and continued till 2:30 pm.
βAt 2.40 in the morning, Vineet, Teertha and Vandana left for their Scorpio car. As soon as Tirtha sat in the passenger seat, two/three youths started firing indiscriminately. All three were injured in the shooting. The attackers fled after firing in the air,” he told the police.
“We rushed them to the Civil Hospital in Panchkula where doctors declared them brought dead,” he added. According to the police, eight teams have been formed to investigate the incident.
