Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy said on Saturday that Bangalore will host the International Millet Festival on January 23, 24 and 25. As a prelude to the mega event, an agricultural mela and millet mela will be organized in each district.
Speaking after the inauguration of the Millet Walk (Siridhanya Nadige) organized by the Agriculture Department, he said millet is a “healthy food” and said that the state government is encouraging millet cultivation.
The Bajra Mahotsav in Bangalore will bring together experts of national and international repute, people from the Bajra industry and technologies supporting millet cultivation and participate in discussions aimed at promoting millet on a large scale.
The minister asked the farmers to participate in the discussion and imbibe the suggestions of experts to grow healthy food on their land.
Meanwhile, Mandya will organize a millet fair next month, the minister said. He urged the public to support the initiative of the department.
Describing the ongoing 87th Akhila Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan as a “historic” event, Mandya said that such a grand event had not been organized in the past and the people had given their feedback and expressed happiness over the government’s decision to organize it. The Sahitya Sammelan is a grand convention with a throng of visitors from different parts of the state. The volcano walk which started from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mandaya ended by reaching the meeting place.
