A 22-year-old veterinary doctor was killed and his father injured when a speeding goods vehicle hit their scooter on MG Road in Chikkaballapura on Friday (December 20, 2024).
The deceased has been identified as Yogita, who was doing an internship in Bengaluru after completing her course in Hassan district, police said.
The deceased was left by her father Muniraju who was going to Bengaluru for an internship. While they were crossing MG Road, a speeding canter hit them. As they were not wearing helmets, both of them fell on the ground and Yogita got a serious injury on her head. Both were taken to the hospital and Yogita was declared dead by the doctor.
The Chikkaballapura police have registered a case of negligent and negligent driving and the death of the driver due to negligence. He was arrested and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
Both the victims were not wearing helmets and Yogita could have been saved if she had worn a helmet, a police official said.
Due to road widening and construction work, unorganized signal lights have increased the traffic on the road in an unorganized manner.
