Carrying banners accusing the state government of supporting the “Coimbatore blast terrorists”, BJP workers and activists affiliated with RSS outfits including Hindu Munnani took part in the rally.
Hindu organizations were criticized after the state government allowed the “funeral procession” of banned Al-Umaa founder SA Basha here days ago with police security. Basa, one of the convicts in the 1998 bombing case, died of old age while on parole and was buried here. The police said that they were detained because they did not give permission to the BJP to hold the rally.
In a tweet, Annamalai said, “We condemn DMK Govt’s cowardly act of arresting @BJP4Tamil Nadu leaders and workers who took out a rally glorifying terrorists who killed 58 people in the peaceful city of Coimbatore in 1998. DMK Govt must understand that @BJP4TamilNadu’s Activists will never bow down to such tyranny and we will always be the voice of the people of Tamil Nadu.”
