2 ex-employees arrested for stealing confidential data of perfume firm Mumbai News

The Worli police on Wednesday registered an FIR against two former employees of a perfume company for allegedly stealing confidential company data and sharing it with a competitor.

Based on the complaint of the executive director of the Worli-based company, which imports and distributes luxury perfumes and beauty products across India, a case has been registered under the Information Technology Act and relevant sections of the Indian Judicial Code.

According to the complainant, one of the accused worked as a senior manager with the brand team till he resigned in July 2023 when he joined a rival company.

The second accused, was a senior executive in the e-commerce department till July 2024, after which he also joined another firm.

Following the senior executive’s resignation in July 2024, the company discovered three emails sent to the former senior manager on July 5, 2024, from his official email account.

These emails contained a file containing three years of sales data, product descriptions, prices, and sensitive information including monthly sales figures — critical to the company’s business plans and strategies, according to the complainant.

The executive director later filed a formal complaint with the Worli police. A case was registered after preliminary investigation.

“The complainant has also raised suspicions about the rival company, suggesting that it may have offered high salaries to ex-employees to entice them to share confidential data. It is possible that the competitor used financial incentives to gain access to our proprietary information,” an official said. .
