Hyderabad: In 2024, 42 percent of the total money lost by innocent people to cyber thieves was from Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits.
The Telangana Cyber ββSecurity Bureau in its annual report said Rs.1866.9 crore was lost in 1,14,174 cases in Telangana in 2024 as against Rs.778.7 crore in 2023 in 91,652 cases.
In Cyberabad, as much as 793 crore was lost in 372 cases in 2024 till November 30, compared to Rs 269 crore in 182 cases in cybercrime cases in 2023. The Rs.793 crore lost in Cyberabad is 42 per cent of the total amount lost to cyber crime in the state. Cyberabad Police has recovered Rs 49.64 crore.
Part-time job fraud topped the list of cyber crimes with over 3,267 cases, followed by business fraud with 1,686 cases and fraud with Rs 1,276 crore. Digital arrest fraud has also seen a significant increase in Cyberabad with over 1,000 cases in 2024 as against 102 cases in 2023.
Out of Rs 80.57 crore lost in 1,000 cases in digital arrest fraud, police recovered Rs 5.70 crore. Among some of their significant achievements, cybercriminals have collected Rs. Returned Rs.96 lakhs to the victim who lost 1.33 crores.
Cyberabad Police arrested a man from Ernakulam, Kerala for his involvement in digital arrest fraud and recovered Rs 61.76 lakh and recovered incriminating material from the possession of the arrested person.
