Two persons were arrested on Wednesday for giving drugs and medicines to patients at an illegal clinic-cum-pharmacy in Sholingur town near Ranipetan.
46-year-old N. was arrested. Tamilvanan and 35-year-old S Pradeep Rai, health officials said. They both dropped out of school. They were natives of Solingur town.
In the preliminary investigation, it has been revealed that they have been operating an illegal clinic-cum-pharmacy for a long time. They have converted their house into a clinic and pharmacy for patients. On an average, 35-50 patients visit their clinic every day.
Health Officer of Government Taluk Hospital (Sholingur) B. A special medical team led by Karunakaran conducted a surprise check at the home of the two dogs after a complaint from the local residents. The medical team also included a doctor, a pharmacist and a drug inspector.
During the search, health officials found lots of used medical equipment, prescriptions and letterheads in clinics set up in the back of pharmacies. They also found syringes, capsules and other medical equipment used in these clinics.
Clinics and pharmacies are sealed. The team also recovered blood pressure equipment, stethoscope, syringes and other medical equipment. The two quacks are said to be first-time offenders. A case was registered by the Solingur town police before he was detained in Walajah town upazila. An investigation is underway.
