Two days of talks on breaking the silence concluded

Vijayawada: A two-day international conference on “Breaking the Silence: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Gender Exploitation and Resistance” provided multifaceted insights into the issues of gender exploitation and resistance. The conference organized by SRM University-AP was concluded on Thursday.

Various scholars, experts, research scholars and students from the country and abroad participated in the program. Famous academicians like Prof. Speeches were presented by Anita Singh, Department of English, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Prof. Rajendra Dudrah, Professor of Cultural Studies and Creative Industries, Birmingham City University; Pvt. Gitanjali Gangoli, Department of Sociology, Durham University; Prof. Nalini Iyer, Department of English, Seattle University; and Prof. Priyanka Tripathi, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Patna.

Sessions explored themes such as gender and resistance, intersectionality, trauma, and survival. With five guest speakers, more than 70 research paper presentations, and more than 140 participants, the conference offered diverse perspectives on gender exploitation and resistance.

In his address, Ishwari School of Liberal Arts Dean Prof. Vishnupada said, “Despite more than 60 years of feminist movement and scholarship, gender inequality and violence persist. Patriarchal structures and gender-based violence are as prevalent as ever.”

Discussions at the conference addressed many of the barriers within the system, encouraging participants to discuss, debate and “break the silence” around gender exploitation.
