ISRO’s IIRS (Indian Institute of Remote Sensing) is offering a free course on geodata processing using Python as an outreach program.
It is a comprehensive training initiative that focuses on imparting skills in geoprocessing and web-based visualization.
Things to know:
- The course is ISRO’s 133rd outreach program and aims to reach a diverse range of students.
- The course is suitable for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as technical and scientific staff of government institutions and researchers.
- Applicants should have a basic understanding of remote sensing, GIS fundamentals, and computer programming.
- The course emphasizes the use of freely available satellite imagery and geospatial data to address challenges in environmental management, disaster response, climate change, natural resource management, and more.
- This will include topics such as GIS overview, Python programming, raster and vector data processing, and use of open source geospatial data processing libraries.
- The course will be conducted online and participants are required to have appropriate hardware and a stable internet connection.
- Participants with more than 70 percent attendance will receive a course completion certificate.
- Course study materials – including lecture slides, video recordings, open source software, and demonstration handouts – will be accessible through e-Class. Video lectures will also be uploaded on the platform.
Important dates
The program is scheduled between 15th to 19th January 2024 and selection of restricted seats will be done on first come first serve basis.
