The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted surprise inspections of 29 schools in six regions on December 18 and 19, 2024, as part of its commitment to maintain high educational standards. Inspections were held in Delhi on December 18 and in Bengaluru, Patna, Bilaspur, Varanasi and Ahmedabad on December 19, 2024.
The primary objective of these inspections was to assess compliance with CBSE norms and affiliation bye-laws. Inspection teams focused on verifying student enrollment records, infrastructural facilities, and overall functioning of schools.
A total of 29 teams, each consisting of a CBSE official and a principal of an affiliated school, conducted these inspections. Inspections were coordinated within a limited time frame to maintain the element of surprise and ensure accurate findings.
Findings from inspections
The inspection found that most schools violated CBSE’s affiliation bye-laws by admitting students who had not actually attended classes, effectively creating “non-attendance” enrollments. In addition, many schools were found not to comply with the board’s infrastructure standards.
CBSE has taken these violations seriously and is in the process of issuing show cause notices to schools found in violation of the rules. The board is also considering taking legal action against erring schools.
