NIRF Guidelines
The KIRF system was introduced by the Higher Education Department and the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KHEC) to improve the quality of education in the state’s universities and colleges. It has been developed on the model of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) guidelines. A dedicated online portal (www.kirf.kshec.org) has been set up for KIRF, she said.
A total of 449 higher education institutions participated in the first KIRF ranking. Organizations were categorized into 12 different sectors.
In addition to NIRF’s standard criteria, KIRF includes state-specific indicators such as scientific disposition, secular outlook, regional diversity, first-generation learners, social inclusion, and green technology. The perception factor, which is part of the NIRF, was excluded from the KIRF ranking methodology.
Ranking criteria are teaching, learning, and resources (30%); Knowledge dissemination and research excellence (30%); graduation results (20%); accessibility and inclusiveness (10%); and scientific temperament and secular approach (10%).
