The BJP knows that genuine sentiments about Ambedkar are out there and is therefore afraid of the opposition raising the issue, the Congress general secretary said in an apparent reference to Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments about Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said the FIR filed against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi is a “symbol of the government’s desperation” and claimed that the BJP is upset because it knows the country will not tolerate the “insult” of BR Ambedkar. The BJP knows that genuine sentiments about Ambedkar are out there and is therefore afraid of the opposition raising the issue, the Congress general secretary said in an apparent reference to Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments about Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha.
“This government is afraid. This government is afraid of a debate on the Adani issue, they are afraid of any debate. They know that their true feelings towards Ambedkar ji are out in the open and that’s why they are afraid of the opposition because we are raising this issue,” he adjourned to the Lok Sabha. After that, she told reporters at the Parliament premises.
He said that national interest is connected with the case of insulting Ambedkar. “Our constitution was given by Dr Ambedkar, the people of the country and the freedom struggle, and the country will not tolerate his insult,” she said.
When asked about the FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi said, “This is a sign of the government’s desperation. They are so desperate that they are registering false FIRs. Rahul ji can never push anyone, I am his sister, I know him. Such Can never do the job.” The country also knows and is seeing how desperate the BJP is that they are registering these arbitrary FIRs because they do not want to discuss Adani and they know that the country will not tolerate the way they have insulted Ambedkar, she said.
“That’s why they are confused,” added Priyanka Gandhi. The police registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, hours after the BJP filed a complaint, accusing him of physical assault and incitement during the scuffle in Parliament premises.
A police official said the FIR has been registered under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (criminal use of force), 351 (criminal . threats) and 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code (common intention). Police are likely to summon Gandhi for questioning in connection with the case, the official said.
The police will request the Lok Sabha Secretariat to provide the CCTV footage of the incident area. On Thursday, opposition and ruling MPs staged separate protests over alleged insults to Ambedkar, leading to clashes in Parliament premises, in which BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured.
The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing a senior member, a charge the Congress leader has denied. On Wednesday, the opposition party took Shah’s comments on Ambedkar to besiege the government and demanded his resignation, calling it an insult to the architect of the Constitution.
