Injured BJP MPs doing well, under observation in ICU: RML Hospital

Two BJP MPs who sustained head injuries in a clash between opposition and NDA members on the Parliament premises are now in stable condition and are under observation in the ICU of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, officials said on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Pratap Sarangi (69) of Odisha and Mukesh Rajput (56) of Uttar Pradesh were brought to hospital from Parliament with head injuries on Thursday, December 18, 2024.

Medical Superintendent of RML Hospital Dr. Ajay Shukla said on Friday that their health condition is very good and their blood pressure is under control.

“Mukesh Rajput is still feeling a little dizzy and heavy in the head. Sarangi also has a chronic heart problem. He had a stent in his heart. They are being monitored in the ICU and their condition is being monitored. The treating doctors will decide further. During the treatment and when to shift to the ward, Dr. Shukla said.

He said that there was nothing significant about the injury in the MRI and CT scan.

Dr. According to Shukla, Sarangi was bleeding profusely when he was brought in. “He had a deep cut on his forehead and needed stitches,” he said.

Rajput’s head was also injured, but he did not faint immediately after that. However, the MP was conscious when brought to the hospital. His blood pressure also increased. It was brought under control, said Dr. Shukla. He said on Thursday.

Sarangi was injured in a clash between opposition and NDA MPs on the Parliament premises over alleged insults to BR Ambedkar. The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing a senior member, a charge the Congress leader denied.

The controversy erupted after BJP MPs protested against using the space left vacant on one side of the Makardwar staircase, which is used by members to enter and exit the building, to enter Parliament. Rajput was also injured in the clash.
