BCCI’s new video reveals a candid side of Ashwin

New Delhi: Not a tough nut to crack on the field, recently retired India off-spin great Ravichandran Ashwin isn’t quite the same once he steps into the dressing room where he is known to have fun moments with his teammates and support staff.

In the footage, released by the BCCI a day after he brought the curtain down on a brilliant international career in the middle of the five-match Test series against Australia in Brisbane, Ashwin was seen taking bowling lessons from support staff at the indoor nets facility.

“The innumerable battles on the field are memorable. But there are moments like these that Ashwin can reminisce about in his international career,” the BCCI said in a post on ‘X’.

Ashwin, 38, retired from the game as the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 537 wickets in 106 matches, only behind veteran Anil Kumble (619 wickets).

In the video footage, Ashwin is seen enjoying time with fielding coach T Dileep, trainer Soham Desai, analyst Hari Prasad Mohan and masseur Arun Kanade.

When he announced his retirement after the Brisbane Test draw, Ashwin said he had many memories from the dressing room.

“I think I have some punch left in me as a cricketer, but I want to showcase that at club level. I’ve had a lot of fun, and I’ve created a lot of memories.

“I have shared some incredible moments with Rohit (Sharma) and many other teammates, although I have lost some of them over the years.
