Five terrorists were killed in JK’s Kulgam

Srinagar:Five separatist militants were killed and two army personnel were injured in a fierce gunfight in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Kulgam district, officials said on Thursday.

They said that the identity of those killed is yet to be revealed as the operation is ongoing in the area.

Clashes broke out on Wednesday midnight during a cordon and search operation launched jointly by Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles, Counter-Insurgency Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Kaddar village of Behibagh area of ​​Kulgam. Police sources said receiving “credible information” about the presence of terrorists there.

A police official said that when a joint team of security forces reached the suspected location, the hiding terrorists opened fire, triggering an encounter. Two security personnel were injured in the initial firing.
“Later, five terrorists were killed during the operation whose identity is being ascertained,” the official said.

Earlier, Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps also known as Chinar Corps in a post on ‘X’ said, “On 19 December 2024, based on specific intelligence information regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir. Police in Kaddar, Kulgam Suspicious activity was spotted by the alert army and the terrorists opened fire indiscriminately after the operation was in progress.
