The Legislative Assembly Secretariat has declared the Erode East constituency vacant following the death of Congress leader EVKS Elangovan last week. The Election Commission of India has also been informed about this.
This is the second time that the Erode East seat has fallen vacant since the 2021 assembly elections. Congress member Thirumahan Avera won the seat in 2021. After his death and the last by-election, his father Mr. Ilangovan was elected from the same seat.
