On Tuesday, there was an uproar on social media over the removal of the solar-roofed cycle track on the service road of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) between Nankaramguda and Kollur.
A video clip of the demolition of a solar panel near Nankaramguda was widely circulated, with netizens expressing surprise at the act, which was interpreted as a political decision to undo the work of the then Bharat Rashtra Samithi government implemented by the Congress government. project. Many have expressed their anger and displeasure towards this move.
“How on Earth can we destroy a bicycle track with a solar roof? Where are the environmentalists? What is this government trying to explain? What happens now..? By cutting down all the trees around ORR installed by KCR and removing the lights of ORR??” a Udaya Kopolu posted on social media platform X.
“Is Telangana Congress Govt destroying India’s first solar roof cycle track? I am shocked to see this video of partial removal of cycle track along ORR. Is this another attempt by Revanth Reddy to erase KCR’s legacy? Why this madness? Such precious public infrastructure for political vendetta Why destroy the piece?” BRS worker Dilip Konatham said that the 23 km solar roof cycle track is the brainchild of the then IT and Municipal Administration Minister and BRS leader Ketram Rao and it is the second such environmentally friendly transport in the world and harnesses solar energy.
The cycle track was laid in two sections with breaks from Nankaramguda to Telangana State Police Academy, and Narsingi to Kollur and was inaugurated by Shri Rama Rao in October last year. It was designed to produce 16 megawatts of solar energy.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has informed through a statement that only the shade on the cycle track has been removed to make way for the ramp to be constructed near the Nankaramguda Interchange keeping in mind the slowness of traffic.
The new ramp has been designed with a total length of 120 meters and will cross the cycle track on a skew, removing about 80 meters of roof.
The cycle track will be continued by providing at-grade crossing along the track with all necessary precautions like Nankaramguda up-ramp, Narsingi up-ramp, vehicular underpass, bollards at passenger underpasses, blinkers and speed calming measures. on the ramp.
It has been decided to construct a ramp on the proposal of the traffic police after the grid will be closed during Nankaramguda Rotary’s activity. A large number of commuters are heading towards places like IT Corridor, Financial District, Serilingampally, Gachiboli, Raidurgam, IKEA, Madhpur to Narsingi and Puppalguda via Nankaramguda Rotary.
The proposed down ramp will partially solve the problem by allowing Nankaramguda-bound commuters to alight before the rotary, Metropolitan Commissioner Sarfraz Ahmed informed.
