Vijayawada:Telugu Desam’s Nellore Parliamentary Constituency level President Sheikh Abdul Aziz has been elected as the Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board.
A board meeting was held at the office of the Waqf Board on Wednesday for the selection of the chairman. Prakasam District Collector Tamim Ansaria, one of the board members, presided over the meeting and the election process.
One member of the board, Abdul Aziz, was unanimously elected as the chairman.
He said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had given life to the Board to protect God’s property. “We will not only protect the waqf property, but also work to generate revenue from the waqf property to benefit the society.”
Aziz said that the responsibility of protecting the Waqf property lies with the government, government officials and the board.
Aziz said, ‘Due to the paralysis of the board, a decision has not been made for many days. We will take historic decisions with the support of the coalition government.”
Out of the 60,000 acres of Waqf land, 32,000 acres i.e. more than 50 percent have been encroached and occupied illegally. With the help and support of the Chief Minister, we will introduce several reforms to strengthen the Waqf Board and return the encroached Waqf lands,” he added.
