TDP fully supports ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill, says Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandra Shekhar

N Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) fully supports the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill, party leader and Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Shekhar said.

Reiterating TDP’s commitment to support the Center in achieving the goals of ‘Developed India’ by 2047, Shri Chandra Shekhar said the party is aligned with the Centre’s goals and aims to integrate it into the broader framework of ‘Developed India’. Swarna Andhra Vision 2047′.

During the discussion on this issue in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Chandra Shekhar said that holding the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections together will significantly reduce expenses and improve efficiency. “The Election Commission has spent about ₹6,000 crore in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and over ₹10,000 crore in 2024. Holding simultaneous elections can reduce these expenses by 40% and increase voter turnout by 7%,” he said.

Mr. Chandra Shekhar mentioned that political parties collectively spend more than Rs 1 lakh crore in elections. Simultaneous elections will help streamline administrative functions, which often face disruptions due to chaotic elections. “Three provincial level elections in the last six months have had an impact on regular governance,” he said, stressing the broader benefits of this reform.
