Amyra, a 6-year-old girl studying in Class 1, was crushed to death by the tire of a school bus on the premises of BCM School located in Sector 32, Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana on Monday. Angry parents and locals protested the tragic incident.
The school staff rushed the girl to Fortis Hospital but she was declared brought dead on arrival. After the incident, her parents accused the school of gross negligence and vowed not to cremate their daughter until their questions were answered and justice was done.
The girl’s father, Anurag Sood, told the police that the accident took place inside the school premises due to the negligence of the principal and management of the school. His uncle Amit Sud has accused the school of tampering with evidence. “They cleaned the blood stains, removed the CCTV cameras covering the spot and let the driver escape. Where were the caretakers and bus conductors they claimed to be working for? We will not cremate him until all the culprits are arrested,” he said.
Police said they have registered a case against the driver Simranjit Singh, Principal DP Guleria and members of the school management under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS at Division No. 7 police station.
ACP (East) Sumit Sood said, “It was a terrible accident, but some political activists are trying to dramatize the incident before the local elections. At first glance, the girl was crushed after the driver hit the bus. CCTV near the scene did not capture the incident, but all available footage has been seized for investigation. We assure parents of a fair investigation. “
School principal DP Guleria expressed grief and termed it an “unfortunate incident”. He said, ‘The police have taken the CCTV footage. Five teachers rushed the child to Fortis Hospital, but could not save him.
The boy’s mother Rupinder Sood said, ‘This school should be closed forever. They failed to take care of my daughter. He was killed inside the school. At first, they told us she was just unconscious. When we got to the hospital, they told us she was gone. She was my only child.”
The incident has sparked outrage among parents and demands for stricter security measures in schools. The investigation is ongoing.
