The state government will implement internal reservation within three months, minister Satish Jarkiholi said in Belagavi on Monday.

He said this while demanding internal reservation in a rally held by Madiga, Dandora, Dohar, Dakkaliga, Machhagara and other communities near Suvarna Soudh.

He said that the leaders of various parties had gathered for the rally and asked the community to form a united front to meet the demands.

“We should not be divided along party lines or subcastes. We must remain united. It is not easy for the Nayak community to get reservation in Scheduled Tribe category. Swamiji and leaders of our community have to sit on dharna many times to get benefits,’ he said.

Reacting to the comments made by some BJP leaders saying that the state government is not serious about implementing internal reservation, Mr. Satish Jarkiholi said that some leaders have made false allegations against the state government.

“You have to ask them why they didn’t meet this demand when they were in power?” He said.

Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa said that the government is committed to providing internal reservation.

“Congress has included internal reservation in its manifesto and this promise will be fulfilled. We run a government that fulfills its promises. We will also fulfill this promise,’ he said.

He said that the decision of the Supreme Court has opened the way for the implementation of internal reservation.

“Some BJP leaders are trying to politicize the issue. They say that there should be internal reservation based on the 2011 census. They do not understand that the population of Scheduled Castes has increased between 2011 and 2024,” he said.

He asked not to divide the 101 communities belonging to Scheduled Castes. “First of all, we must stop referring to ourselves as Holeya and Madiga. We should unite and fight for our rights,’ he said.

BJP state president BY Vijayendra complained that the state government had not provided office to the Justice Nagmohan Das committee which was tasked with reviewing internal reservations.

He said, ‘This shows that the government is not serious about this matter.

Minister RB Thimmapur, former minister Hanumanthappa Alcode, BJP MP Govind Karjol and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R Ashok and other leaders were present.

Meanwhile, BJP member CT Ravi demanded the government to implement internal reservation at zero time in the Legislative Council.

Mahadevappa said that the minister concerned will respond to the demand.
