Hyderabad: A woman from the city, who was found unconscious after committing suicide in Mulugu during the search for her absconding husband, has filed a complaint against her in-laws at the Alwal police station.
According to police sources, the absconding man left the family after the marriage after realizing that it was ‘too much’ for him to handle. The couple belongs to different religions.
The woman told the media on Sunday that she was constantly being harassed by her in-laws and that they would get her son married to a ‘rich’ woman.
According to Vijay, the investigating officer of Mulugu, the woman was living in a paying guest accommodation not far from her home in Bengaluru. She came in contact with the accused, a tech major, through a social networking platform in 2023 and entered into a relationship. They got married in January this year in Bengaluru.
“After the couple moved into the man’s house in Alwal, her family was harassing her continuously. They didn’t accept her at first because she belongs to a different religion,” said Vijay. “After a month, they accepted her and the two decided to get married again. Now that man has refused to marry her. On December 5, he went to the Alwal police alleging harassment by his wife,β said Vijay.
βThe Alwal police counseled them and informed them about the legality of their marriage. On Saturday morning, the man told his family and his wife that he would commit suicide and left home.
Suspecting that the husband might have gone to the pond, the wife reached Shamirpet in search of him. It is said that he tried to commit suicide after not being found.
Locals saw him and tried to stop him, but he allegedly threw the shoe. After reaching the spot, the Mulugu police were called and taken to the government hospital for treatment.
After he was declared stable, the magistrate went to the hospital to take his statement. βSince Turkapally area falls under our jurisdiction, we asked the woman about the matter, and asked if she wanted to register a case. She refused and said she was undergoing counseling and would return to her family as she wanted to live with her husband,β the SI said.
βI also called her husband, who is currently absconding as per my information. At first he picked up the call. We informed him about the wife, but he did not respond well,β the SI said.
The woman went to Alwal police station, where she was counseled on Sunday. After this, the woman agreed to file a complaint. Alwal Police has registered a case under Section 85 (Cruelty against women by husband, in-laws and relatives) of BNS, Alwal Police said.
