Couple arrested for assaulting female police officer, snatching her mobile phone Pune News

It is alleged that a couple assaulted a female traffic police officer and took away her mobile while she was on duty on Link Road in Chinchwad on Saturday afternoon.

The Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested the two – Milind Rajendra Pawar (32) of Sawar Khadki and his friend, a 28-year-old woman who works in a private establishment.

Police Constable Supriya Borhade attached to Chinchwad Traffic Division filed a First Information Report (FIR) in this incident at Chinchwad Police Station.

Police said the incident took place when the complainant Borhade was taking action against a vehicle in the no parking zone on Link Road in Chinchwad. The police said that the two-wheeler of an accused was picked up from the no parking area and thrown at a tempo on duty by the traffic police around 12:15 pm.

The accused then started arguing with the complainant asking him to leave the two wheeler. The complainant asked the accused to pay the fine, but they allegedly abused him, assaulted him, took away his mobile phone and threw it on the ground. The press release mentions that the screen of the mobile phone was damaged in the incident.

The police arrested the accused couple on charges of obstructing government work and assaulting a civil servant on duty under Sections 132, 121 (1), 218, 221, 324, 352, 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS).
Investigating Officer Assistant Police Inspector Vitthal Karambalakar informed that the court allowed the accused to be detained for two days for investigation. “Accused Pawar has a criminal record in the past. Further investigation is underway,’ he said.
