The decomposed body of a revenue officer who was abducted last month was found on Sunday near a drain in Bavia village in the Cantonment area of this Uttar Pradesh district, police said.
They said that the body of 45-year-old Manish Kashyap, who was kidnapped on November 27, has been sent for post-mortem.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said that the body was found based on the information given by the person involved in the kidnapping.
The police is preparing to interrogate the other accused and take strict action against them.
Kashyap, working as a revenue officer in Faridpur Tehsil, went missing after leaving home for duty on November 27.
Kashyap’s mother Morkali filed a complaint with the police alleging that her son was kidnapped by the local people’s representative of Khalpur village and his aide. An FIR was registered at the Faridpur police station on the orders of Additional Director General (ADG), Bareilly Zone, Ramit Sharma.
The ADG directed a team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Crime, Mukesh Kumar and other police units to prioritize the search for Kashyap.
Investigations have shown that Kashyap’s murder was linked to a land measurement dispute in Kapurpur village of Faridpur.
When Kashyap was measuring the disputed land, the accused suspected that he was on the side of the opposing party.
According to the police investigation, the accused called Kashyap to the tehsil office on November 27, strangled him inside a Maruti Ertiga car and threw his body in a drain in Bavia village before fleeing.
The SSP said that further inquiries are on and the police will soon take comprehensive action against all the culprits. He said that the provision of death penalty will be added to the FIR.
