Aam Aadmi Party, Akhilesh Yadav will participate in the program tomorrow in memory of the gang rape victims on December 16 Delhi News

Twelve years after the Aam Aadmi Party found its roots in the sporadic and angry nationwide protests triggered by the December 16 gang-rape, sources in the ruling party in Delhi said on Monday the incident would be commemorated with a special tribute.

AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister Atishi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav are likely to attend the Thyagaraj Stadium to demonstrate the United India Front on the issue of women’s safety in the country, sources said.

Intended to pay tribute to the 23-year-old victim, the event comes in the wake of the AAP government’s recently announced Chief Minister Mahila Samman Yojana and its political attacks on the BJP in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly elections.

Dubbed Mahila Adalat, the program will be conducted like a court proceeding discussing crimes against women in Delhi.

Almost daily in the last fortnight, AAP has attacked the BJP-led Center in general and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in particular regarding law and order in the capital.

On December 16, 2012, a medical student from Uttar Pradesh was sexually assaulted and her male companion beaten up by men, including a minor, on board a moving bus in South Delhi.

While the victim later succumbed to his injuries during the brutal attack, one of the five accused in the case committed suicide in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, a minor accused served time in a government facility and the remaining four were hanged. .

At the time of the incident, the newly formed AAP was at the forefront of the agitation that started in Delhi.
