A young woman died and a young man was injured when a branch of a palm tree fell on a motorcycle near Kothmangalam on Saturday.

21-year-old Ann Mary Sivi, a resident of Thrissur, was walking on a motorcycle driven by her college friend Altaf Abubakar, 21, at Chembankuzhi near Nagarampara Forest Office at 6:00 p.m. when a tree branch uprooted by an elephant fell. The police said about them.

The local forest officials who reached the spot took both of them to a private hospital in Kothmangalam. According to the forest officials, there are frequent intrusions of wild elephants in this area.
