After a 32-year-old Surat man filed a police complaint claiming that an unknown assailant had chopped off four fingers on his left hand for a “black magic ritual”, authorities said on Saturday that he had cut off the finger himself. Do not work for a relative’s diamond firm.
Mayur Tarapara, who lives in Ved Road area, was working as a computer operator in a jewelery firm in Warachha’s mini market. On December 9, he filed a complaint with the Amroli police, alleging that he had cut four of his fingers against an unidentified person.
In the complaint, he has told his family that he left home on November 8 and was going to meet a friend. On the way, he stopped the motorcycle at Variav Road in Amroli area at Vedanta Circle. “While urinating on the side of the road, he felt dizzy, sat on the ground and finally lost consciousness. Regaining consciousness after 10 minutes, he found his mobile phone and motorcycle there but four fingers of his left hand were missing. It is suspected that someone has bitten the finger of a black magician,’ the complaint said.
Tarapara said that he was taken to Kiran Hospital for treatment. Amroli police registered a case, which was handed over to the Surat city crime branch by Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlaut.
During the investigation, officers reviewed the CCTV footage of the area and found nothing suspicious. After three fingers and a cleaver knife were found in a bag near the scene, we took the fingerprints of his right hand and the fingerprints on the cleaver knife and matched them. He has tried to confuse his statement,’ said an official.
Crime Branch Inspector SN Parmar said, “The condition of the victim is stable and when we questioned him, he could not give a satisfactory answer regarding the fact that his fingerprints matched, three fingers and a knife were recovered. He admitted that he did not want to work in the diamond factory and that he had planned to amputate his four fingers so that he could not work in the diamond factory.
“We are trying to get more information from him,” he added.
