Watch: Kane Williamson’s bizarre outing as he kicks the ball onto the stumps against England | Cricket News

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson was on the receiving end of a bizarre dismissal in the third Test against England, which he brought himself.

The incident happened in the 59th over by Matthew Potts when a delivery bounced off Williamson’s pads and in order to prevent the ball from hitting the stumps, the Kiwi batsman inadvertently kicked the stumps and dislodged the bails. The batsman, who was playing a terrible innings, was forced to leave the field on 44 runs.

England’s seamers struck in the final session to post New Zealand 315 for nine after the hosts made a strong start in their bid for a consolation win on the first day of the third and final Test in Hamilton on Saturday.

New Zealand’s tail got stronger but batsmen higher up the order are complaining about their failure to build the partnerships needed to really cash in on the platform laid by Tom Latham and Will Young in an opening stand of 105.

Local hero Tim Southee fired up his 96th, 97th and 98th Test sixes in the final half-hour before scoring a 99th century in his final Test innings to give the home fans a 23 off 10 balls in the last half-hour.

Mitchell Santner sent New Zealand to stumps with a scintillating 54-ball half-century and will resume on Sunday with Will O’Rourke, who is yet to score, looking to add some runs to the table.

Having already lost the series after heavy defeats in Christchurch and Wellington, New Zealand are keen to retire Southee in his final Test with a winner but England’s bowlers stuck to their task and reaped their rewards.
