A day later Ranbir Kapoor publicly admitted He is involved in director Nitesh Tiwari’s film Ramayana And shared details about the highly anticipated project, actor Sunny Deol, who was long rumored to be a part of the two-part franchise, officially confirmed his participation on screen. At the third edition of Screen Live in Mumbai, Sunny, who was accompanied by brother Bobby Deol, revealed that he was a part of the project and shared some insights into it.
At the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Ranveer revealed that he has completed the shooting of the first part of the two-part franchise. He said, ‘It has two parts. I have finished shooting part 1 and will shoot part 2 soon. To be a part of that story, I am very humbled to essay the role of Ram. This is a dream for me. This is a film that has everything. It teaches about Indian culture – family dynamics and spousal dynamics.

Now, Sunny Deol’s confirmation has only increased the excitement around the project. He said, “Ramayana is a long project because they are trying to make it like Avatar and Planet of the Apes films. All those techniques are a part of it. At a screen event held at KC College in Mumbai, he said, ‘The writer and the director are very clear about how it should be and how the character should be presented.
Noting the backlash received by several recent blockbusters – notably director Om Raut’s Prabhas and the Kriti Sanon-starrer Adipurush, inspired by the Hindu epic Ramayana – for its lackluster visual effects, Sunny assured Nitesh Tiwari’s project that it would be visually impressive. “You’ll also see special effects that will make you believe that it (the unfolding of events) is very real instead of making you feel that these are special effects. To be honest, I am very sure that it will be great and I am sure that everyone will love it,” he added. While there were rumors that he would be playing the role of Hanuman, Sunny did not confirm it.

Taking over X (formerly Twitter) in November this year, Producer Namit Malhotra shared his vision for the projectWriting, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a great quest to bring to the big screen this epic that has ruled the hearts of billions for over 5,000 years.”
“And today, I am thrilled to see it take shape beautifully as our team works tirelessly with one goal in mind: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth and our culture – our ‘Ramayana’. – across the world. For the people,” he wrote in another post. Namit added, “Join us in fulfilling our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence… Part 1 on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 on Diwali 2027. From our entire Ramayana family.”
The project has a star-studded cast with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi playing the roles of Ram and Sita respectively. Ravi Dubey has confirmed the role of Lakshmana while Kannada superstar Yash will play the role of Ravana. The first part of the film is slated to release in the Diwali season of 2026, while the second part will release in 2027.
