Apple and Sony team up to transform the Vision Pro into a gaming VR headset: report | Technology News

Apple and Sony are said to be in talks to combine the Vision Pro’s power with the PSVR2 controller. According to a report by BloombergApple is said to be working on adding PSVR2 controller support for the Vision Pro and will also begin selling the controllers in its stores, which are currently not available for purchase as individual products and only come bundled with the PSVR2.

This development comes as a result of Sony’s work to add PSVR2 controller support for the Vision Pro. Apple has also asked for input from developers about this potential collaboration. If all goes as expected, Vision Pro users will soon be able to pair a PSVR2 controller and transform Apple’s first local computer into a gaming device.

The report further highlights that the functionality of the PSVR2 controller will not be limited to gaming connected to the Vision Pro. Users will also be able to use precision input from the controller to access services like Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop, and other applications that require precision input. Currently, the Vision Pro supports gesture controls, where users can wave their hands in the air, which will be captured by various sensors and cameras packed inside the headset, eliminating the need for an external controller.

Although one can currently connect multiple Bluetooth controllers to the Vision Pro and use them for navigation, the PSVR2 will have much tighter integration with the controller, where it can gain special functions. It will also help Apple pitch the Vision Pro as a high-fidelity mixed reality gaming headset.

For now, it’s unclear how much the standalone PSVR2 controller will cost, but this addition could be a huge boost to the gaming experience on the Apple Vision Pro.
