After defeating Sri Lanka by 109 runs, South Africa has overtaken Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. South Africa are now one win away from reaching next year’s WTC finals.
South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 109 runs on the final day of the second Test at St. George’s Park on Monday, and Keshav Maharaj became the hero at home as the team took five wickets. .
After South Africa took 70 minutes to bowl out Sri Lanka for 238, Maharaj took 5-76 to take the five wickets needed in double-quick time.
The encounter was set for an exciting final as both teams needed a win to keep them in contention for a place in the World Test Championship final next June.
South Africa will now play two more home Tests against Pakistan on December 26 to top the standings and bolster their hopes of a maiden WTC final.
