Sukhraj Singh, whose father Krishna Bhagwan Singh Behbal Kalan was killed in police firing, told the court that he would explore legal options to use Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s confession in Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Sukhraj said, “We will request the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police to look into the confession of Sukhbir Singh Badal to investigate the Behbal Kalan police firing. I will also consult my lawyer on how this confession can strengthen our case. Dera We have maintained from the beginning that the firing was done on behalf of Sukhbir to protect his plan to pardon Sirsa chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim from the court.
On December 2, Akal Takht Jathadars asked Sukhveer three questions when he appeared to atone for the wrongs done during the tenure of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) – Bharatiya Janata Party government from 2007 to 2017.
Sukhveer was asked, ‘Have you committed the sin of dismissing the case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, even though he is an enemy of Sikhs and Sikh religion? Shri Guru Granth Sahib was insulted in your government and you sheltered the accused? After that, two Sikh protesters were killed in the Behbal Kalan firing. Do you confess these sins?”
Sukhveer answered ‘yes’ to all these questions.
On October 14, 2015, Krishna Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh were killed in police firing during a protest against the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari.
Meanwhile, Narayan Singh Chaura, who shot Sukhvir Singh Badal outside Darbar Sahib on December 4, was produced in a local court on Sunday. The police extended his remand for three more days.
Advancing Sukhraj’s stand, Chaura’s lawyer Jaspal Singh Manjpur said, “I will also explore all options to call the Jathedars as witnesses to Sukhbir Singh Badal’s statement in the Behbal Kalan case.”
Manjpur said that the court has the right to decide whether the bullet was fired at Sukhvir Singh Badal or not.
The police have informed the court that they need more time to recover the weapons allegedly hidden by Chaura of Lakhimpur Kheri.
Manjpur dismissed it and said, ‘This is a routine of keeping the police in custody. After the first three days, the police showed only one weapon found at the scene.”
